Official Server Merge Guide

This is the official server merge guide as published in the official L2 forums. Enjoy!

After running many test-cases over the last weeks, we have compiled a list of merge rules and specifics that will explain how the server merge on October 5, 2010, will affect you and your characters.

First of all, we would like to assure you that any character that is successfully transferred to their new server (it passes all of the below character-consolidation tests) will find that all of their inventory and private warehouse items are intact, and their PvP, PK and Karma points will remain the same. Here is the list of merge rules and character consolidation tests.

Character Slots and Names

In the simplest of words, the best way to ensure that you keep the characters you want most is to delete down to 7 characters per new server. This way, you will have complete control of which ones go and which ones stay, and you will not have to stress over the possible results of unexpected character deletion by the automatic server merge process.

Simply make a list and write down the names of all of your characters into two columns; one column is EU server characters, and the other column is NA server characters. You can only keep 7 characters per column (7 characters per new server). Figure out which ones you will delete, empty those characters if you wish, and set them to be deleted. Character deletion is a 7-day process, but the set-to-delete characters will not be included in the merge process, so you will have nothing to worry about.

Merging characters from different servers onto one server is a process that involves many steps.

Step 1 - Character Merge Queue
All characters on all servers will be queued to merge to the new servers, unless you have set that character to be deleted. North American server characters will be queued to merge to Chronos, and European server characters will be queued to merge to Naia. Your characters will now undergo a series of queries and verifications to select the top characters.

Step 2 - Character Level
All characters below level 20 will be deleted IF they have not logged into the game in over a year (the character is dormant).
If your character is level 19 or lower, it will be deleted. If your character is level 20, it will move on to the next step.
To remove the "dormant" status from a character level 19-or-lower, simply log into the game with that character before the merge.

Step 3 - Character Slots

* North American server players - Out of all of your characters on Aria, Bartz, Devianne, Phoenix and Sayha, the 7 characters with the highest amount of experience (character level and percentage through that level) will be kept and transferred to Chronos. The rest will be deleted.
* European server players - Out of all of your characters on Franz, Luna and Teon, the 7 characters with the highest amount of experience (character level and percentage through that level) will be kept and transferred to Naia. The rest will be deleted.
* In cases where a 7th and 8th character have the exact same amount of experience, the older character will be deleted, leaving a total of 7 characters on the server. If you have two characters in this situation and you wish to keep the older character, simply log in and get a little more experience.

Step 4 - Character Name
In the simplest of words, name conflicts are resolved by giving the desired name to the first player that requests it.

Once a character has successfully passed the above steps, they will be placed on their destination server. If your character has the same name as other characters on the new server, all of the characters with that name will now have a number at the end of it. It is a different number for each character, based on which server they originated from. You will see this after logging in to the Character Selection screen. Successful name "keeping" is still technically a name change, because you would be getting rid of the number that was assigned to your duplicated name.

Here is the image-tutorial on how to keep or change your character name.

Character Name Retention:

1. In the character selection screen, you see that your character has a number at the end of their name which was not there before the merge. This means that you have a character name conflict. If you don't have a new number at the end of your name, you're fine, and you can log into the game.
2. When you select a character that has a name conflict, a message box will pop up explaining that there is a character name overlap. It says "Please enter a new name for your character."
3. You can enter in your original character name! This will check and see if the name is still available.
4. If you are the first person to request that name, you will get it! Then you can log in with that name.

New Character Name:

1. If there is already a character that has claimed the name that you are trying to assign to your character, you will not be able to.
2. You will see this message and have to try entering a different character name.

Other Character Consolidation Rules:

Characters Waiting for Deletion
Characters that are queued to be deleted before the server merge will be deleted successfully and will not interfere with your other characters' slot consolidation.

* For example: You have 8 characters across the merging servers, including a level 40 (the lowest of all your characters) and a level 41 (that you do not want to keep). You queue the level 41 for deletion and it is still waiting to be deleted when the server merge happens. After the server merge, the level 41 character will be gone, and the 7 other characters will remain, including the level 40.

Characters on Low-Level Subclass
The server merge process will only examine the main class of each character. If you have a high-level-main character that is on a low-level-subclass at the time of the merge, only the character's main class level will be taken into account.

* For example: You have 7 high level (76+) characters and 1 level 50 character across the merging servers. You switch one of high-level characters to their level 40 subclass. Now it appears that you have 6 level 76+ characters, 1 level 50 character, and 1 level 40 character. When the server merge occurs, the level 50 character will be deleted because it's main class was the lowest of all 8 characters. The level 40-subclass character will remain.

Characters Lowered by Sub-to-Main Account Service
Players that previously purchased a Subclass-to-Main-Class account service may find that their character is now the lowest of over 7 characters waiting to be merged. Because the merge process will only examine the main class of each character, that lowest character will be deleted. Please remember that this will only happen if there are already 7 other characters of higher levels on the merging servers; the 7 highest will be kept, regardless of past Sub-to-Main character level adjustments.

Clans

General Merge Rules for Clans:

* All alliances will be disbanded.
* The following clan information will be transferred intact:
o Clan Warehouse
o Reputation Points
o Clan Skills
o Clan level
o Clan rights
o Clan leadership and ranks
* The in-game clan community board will be reset.
* The clan crest will be reset.
* All clan wars will be ended.

Clan Name Conflicts
In the simplest of words, name conflicts are resolved by giving the desired name to the first clan that requests it.

The Clan Name Conflict is very similar to the Character Name Conflict. Any clans that shared the same name will find that their clan name now has a number at the end of it. This number will be different per clan with conflicting name. Here is how to resolve clan name conflicts:

1. Speak to a High Priest NPC in any town and select "Clan" from the chat list.
2. In the Clan list, select "Change Clan Name."
3. You will see a pop-up message that explains that there are clans with duplicate names, and you should change your clan's name.
4. You can enter your original clan name. This will make the system check to see if your original clan name is still available.
5. IF your clan name request works, you will see a system message in your regular chat window, saying "A clan name change application has been submitted."
6. IF your requested clan name has already been claimed by another clan, you will see a message saying that the name already exists and to pick another one.

*** If you have successfully submitted a request to change your clan name, please not that it will not take effect until the next server maintenance period. ****

Castles, Manors & Clan Halls

* All castles and manors will be reset.
* All clans that own a castle or siegeable clan hall prior to the merge will be reimbursed with clan reputation points at a later date (to be determined).
* All clans that own an auctionable clan hall will be reimbursed with Adena (winning bid amount) at a later date (to be determined). The reimbursed Adena will appear in the Clan Warehouse. Only clan halls purchased on or before September 29, 2010, will be reimbursed.
* All fortresses will be reset.

All non-contestable clan halls will be locked-down by NCsoft GMs as soon as the server merge is complete, and they will remain locked-down until the new Clan Hall distribution method is completed. We will post more about this distribution method in a new thread at a later date.

Olympiad

* Olympiad points will be reset.
* Hero status and associated hero weapons will be reset.
* Olympiad competitions will open to participation as soon as the merge is complete.
